Bio
Will Lucas is entering his second season with Spring Valley High School, serving as the Director of Athlete Performance. He brings with him 28 years of coaching experience in football and 26 years in strength and conditioning.
Before joining the Viking Family, Lucas was the Director of Athlete Performance at Lugoff-Elgin High School for two years. His coaching journey began during his time at the University of South Carolina, where he volunteered as a football coach at Columbia High School for two years. In 2001, he officially began his career at Lexington High School, serving as an assistant strength coach, assistant football coach, assistant baseball coach, and physical education teacher.
In 2008, Lucas transitioned to Pelion High School, where he became the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and an assistant football coach. He continued to build his resume with a year at Blythewood High School in 2017 as the Head Strength Coach and football assistant. In 2018, he joined White Knoll High School as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach and football coach.
Lucas is a graduate of Lexington High School, where he played football and baseball. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from the University of South Carolina, a Master’s Degree in Education from Southern Wesleyan University, and a Master’s Degree in School Counseling from the University of West Alabama.
A highly certified professional, Lucas holds credentials in Speed and Explosion, Corrective Exercise, Speed and Agility, and is a High School Strength & Conditioning Specialist. He is currently pursuing the National High School Strength & Conditioning Specialist certification. His excellence in the field has been recognized with the South Carolina Strength Coach of the Year award in 2014, 2015, and 2016.
Throughout his career, Lucas has coached a variety of football positions including offensive line, tailbacks, tight ends, wide receivers, linebackers, and defensive line. This season, he will be coaching the [tailbacks/tight ends – insert position as finalized].
Lucas is engaged to Marcy Miller and is the proud father of two children: Brian, who plays football for The Apprentice School in Virginia, and Emma, a seventh-grade student.
